Yet another incident of US gun violence in the new year claimed the life of a teenage athlete. Officers later identified him as Juston Hamilton, 18.
A teenage athlete in Texas was shot and killed on Thursday, January 2, at around 5:30 p.m., according to reports. Authorities later identified the victim as Juston Hamilton, an 18-year-old man who was shot and wounded in the parking lot of the Burnham Woods Subdivision Recreation Center off Hickorygate Drive in Spring, Texas.
According to local news outlet Texas Herald News, patrol units from the Harris County Constable’s Office 4 responded to the U.S. shooting Thursday night. Unfortunately, Mr. Hamilton was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary details of the case, reported by ABC affiliate KTRK, shed light on three male suspects who are about the same age as Juston Hamilton. They fled the scene on foot after multiple witnesses reportedly heard a single gunshot and are believed to be still at large. According to the latest information, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division is leading the case. The official murder announcement record for murder case #250100579 emphasizes that Juston’s mother has been informed of the tragedy.
Other details summarizing eyewitness accounts include: “Hamilton was involved in some type of interaction with three other individuals, all black males who appeared to be teenagers. Inside and around Hamilton’s vehicle. During this exchange, one of the three black men shot and killed the complainant.”Officers are currently working to determine the nature of the interaction between the victim and suspect prior to the shooting. The investigation continues. When officers arrived at the crime scene, they found Hamilton’s body suffering from a single gunshot wound.

Sergeant Jason Brown has since appealed for anyone with information in relation to the incident to come forward and assist the investigation. “We are asking anyone in the area who witnessed this shooting or who may have video of the suspect fleeing the scene to contact the Sheriff’s Office,” he said in a statement. .
Hamilton’s profile on the National Gun Violence Memorial website describes the college athlete’s personality as “funny, energetic, and kind.” The 18-year-old was affectionately nicknamed “Mighty Mouse” and was “always joking.”
