The shooting happened outside Michelobos Sports Bar on East Breaker Lane.
AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified the suspect and victim in a November 1 homicide in northeast Austin.
In a media release sent out on Nov. 4, police said 30-year-old Tyler Cochran was shot and killed just before 1:45 a.m. outside Michelobos Sports Bar, 900 E. Braker Lane. Announced.
When officers arrived on scene, they found Cochran and 20-year-old Clayton Teitag suffering from injuries after what appeared to be an altercation. Police said Teitague shot and killed Cochran after an argument. A nightclub security guard then shot and killed Mr. Tytag after witnessing the incident.
Cochrane died at about 2:05 a.m., and Teitag was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Taitagu is in serious but stable condition and remains in the hospital. He is currently under arrest and will be charged with first-degree murder once he is released from the hospital.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call APD at 512-974-TIPS or the Metropolitan Crime Stoppers Program at 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be offered for information leading to an arrest.
APD investigating liquor license in northeast Austin
Austin police officials said they are developing a plan to investigate liquor licenses in the area where the shooting occurred.
APD Chief Lisa Davis said there were 34 calls in the area last year. So far this year, police have been called out 61 times for reports of shootings, aggravated assaults, celebratory shootings, aggravated robberies, criminal mischief, and this Nov. 1 homicide.
“The number of calls for service is increasing. It’s not just the number of calls for service, it’s the intensity of those calls,” said APD Cmdr. Lee Davis said. “Not only do these calls impact the community, they also put a strain on our patrol personnel.”
Police will meet with the community and work with other city departments to address safety in this area of northeast Austin.
