What you need to know
The St. Joseph’s Hawks and Texas Longhorns will face off at Barclays Center on Friday at 9pm ET, without much rest after yesterday’s game. The Hawks have three wins and the Longhorns have four, and each team will be fighting to maintain their winning streaks.
St. Joseph’s defeated Texas Tech 78-77 on Thursday in a close game that could have gone either way.
St. Joseph’s win was the result of some impressive offensive performances. Most notable was Xzayvier Brown, who scored 20 points along with six assists and two steals. Another player who made a difference was Eric Reynolds II, who scored 26 points, scoring 6 of his 11 points from beyond the arc.
Texas, on the other hand, didn’t have much breathing room against Syracuse on Thursday, but still came away with a 70-66 victory. The 70 points marked the Longhorns’ lowest scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn’t matter.
Several players had solid performances to lead Texas to victory, but no one did more than Arthur Calma, who had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Chendal Weaver was another key player and almost achieved a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
St. Joseph’s victory improved their record to 4 wins and 1 loss. As for Texas, the win brings their record to a tie at 4 wins and 1 loss.
Both teams are the top scoring teams in the league, so a high-performing offensive line will likely be on the agenda. St. Joseph’s has had no trouble scoring this season, averaging 76.8 points per game. However, it’s not like Texas is struggling in that department as they are averaging 85.2 points per game. Both teams could easily pile up points, so the only question left is who will be able to put up more points.
