Regional Aviation Company Surf Air Mobility has moved its Aviation Operations Center to North Texas.
The Los Angeles-based company has moved its operations center to Addison Airport, consolidating its division and establishing it as one of the nation’s leading aviation hubs.
The company aims to reinvent regional flights through electrification. Surf Air has been working on electrifying the popular Cessna Grand Caravan Ex Aircraft as part of this initiative. The company said moving to the Dallas area will help careers leverage more highly skilled talent.
“Our decision to move the Aviation Operations Center to Dallas reflects the aviation industry’s commitment to excellence and is another achievement in our transformation plan,” CEO and COO Deanna White said in a February 25 press release.
“Dallas offers a thriving aviation environment and we are confident that by centralizing our operations, we will streamline our business even further and continue to advance the local aviation mobility industry.”
The company is working to certify electric powertrain technology and will bring electric aircraft commuter flights to North Texas. Surf Air believes that by starting by electrifying small planes, the industry will gradually be able to move to larger planes.
According to the company, 50-500 miles of local flights account for around 14% of aviation’s CO2 emissions. More than 15,000 turboprop aircraft that can sit between nine and 19 people have flew these routes and are ready to electrify, according to the Surf Air.
Surf Air will hire new staff as part of the move. The company is looking to fill its maintenance, safety, regulatory compliance, finance, accounting and operational roles at Addison Airport AOC.
The transition to northern Texas means Surf Air, one of the nation’s largest commuter airlines, will enjoy a more centralized US location, close to major airports.
North Texas continues to attract businesses looking to improve their proximity to major U.S. population centers, such as logistics companies. For example, late last year, UK-based Courier Speedy Cargo opened a new office in Irving, cited its central location as it is suitable for clients.
