Odessa, Texas (Kosa) –
The West Texas Food Bank and Green Tree District have teamed up to spread Christmas cheer while giving back to those in need.
Residents will participate in a festive golf cart parade that combines creativity and kindness to support a cause close to home: combating food insecurity.
The West Texas Food Bank serves 19 counties in Texas, representing 34,000 square miles.
Last year they provided more than 13.5 million pounds of food, but to participate in tonight’s event you must donate money or make a food donation to the food bank.
“All the families who are spending their time decorating golf carts for the parade will come out this weekend and join us at Green Tree Golf Club,” said Libby Stevens, CEO of the West Texas Food Bank. There are usually about 100 or 150 carts registered, and it’s very festive. There’s music, lights, and candy being thrown.”
This is the fourth year that the West Texas Food Bank has worked with the Green Tree District.
When they first started, they had only 20 carts and less than 100 pounds of food, Stevens said. Now, four years later, over 100 families happily participate in this community event.
She also said, “So, to see it grow and see how your community really embraces your organization and your work and enjoys it so much and gets involved in our work. It’s about seeing if you can come up with innovative and creative ways to do it.” The 19 counties we serve are amazing. ”
The West Texas Food Bank appreciates the community’s support and donations throughout the year.
“We would not be able to have as much impact here in West Texas without the support of West Texans,” Stevens said.
This isn’t the last time you’ll be able to volunteer at the West Texas Food Bank this year. On December 21st, 432 will be hosting a children’s sports team sorting and processing event.
