For the first time in more than a decade, Texas men’s basketball will meet Texas A&M at a conference tournament game on Thursday.
Since A&M left the Big 12 in 2012, longtime rivals have played various postseason tournaments. That all changed last year when Texas left the Big 12 for the SEC this season.
The Longhorns then defeated Vanderbilt Commodores (79-72) on Wednesday in the first round of the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament, setting the game against previously familiar enemies in the second round of the tournament. A&M was awarded a goodbye past the first round after finishing fifth in the conference this season.
Texas struggled for most of the regular season, finishing 13th in their first year in the SEC (6-12 in the conference, bringing together fellow rookies and Red River rival Oklahoma).
