WICHITA, Kan. (RELEASE) – Wichita State fought back from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to make it a one-score game, but the Mean Green lost its American Athletic Conference opener Sunday afternoon at Charles Koch. Arena wasn’t good enough to overtake.
Taylor Jameson led all scorers with a 17 point performance with five threes made. Jayla Murray and Salese Breaux also scored in double figures for the Shockers with 14 and 10 points, respectively, and Breyon White led Wichita State in rebounding with nine points for the seventh time this season. Jameson had a season-high six boards.
Desiree Wooten led the Mean Green with 12 points and eight rebounds, and Tomisha Lumpkin had a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
The Shockers shot just 29.2 percent (19-of-65) from the floor and 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from the free-throw line, but had a season-best 3-point shooting day. made 9 of 19 (47.4 percent).
Wichita State held North Texas to 2-of-17 (.118), the lowest 3-point percentage against the Shockers this season.
The Shockers averaged just 4.9 three-pointers per game, but they opened the game with three in the first five minutes thanks to Murray (two) and Breaux (one). did. The Shockers fell to 6-8 (0-1 AAC), while North Texas improved to 9-4 (1-0 AAC).
