Austin, Texas – Braia Cunningham has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) to play basketball next season at the University of Texas, coach Vic Schafer announced Monday. Cunningham, who is a transfer from Arizona, is eligible for two years.
Cunningham is a 6-4 forward from Chula Vista, California, and was the honorable mention choice for the PAC-12 All-Freshman in 2023-24.
Cunningham is part of several US basketball teams. Cunningham was part of the team with Madison Booker, who won the gold medal at the 2023 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup. Cunningham also won gold medals at the 2022 FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup and the 2021 FIBA Women’s U16 Americas Championship.
“I am very excited to announce the addition of Breia Cunningham and her family to our Longhorn family,” Coach Vic Schafer said. “I graduated from high school two years ago when I was ranked second in the country in the class of 2023. Breia brings experience, internal presence and the ability to quickly influence our program.
Cunningham averaged 11.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game during the 2024-25 season.
Cunningham was fourth in the big 12 with a shot blocked at 56.
Cunningham shot 56 percent from the field, the fifth best mark in the Big 12. She grabbed double-digit rebounds in six games and recorded four double-doubles in the season. She scored a career-high 21 points in 10/15 shooting against BYU.
